Joanna and Martin |
The Brief: Joanna and Martin are both self-confessed "big music fans", and got engaged at the Glastonbury Music Festival in June 2010. Joanna is a librarian, and liked the book invitation I made for my friend Lis last year. Martin works in IT and likes all things geeky! I knew from my first email exchange with them that they would be a great couple to work with - Jo and Martin had so much to bring to the table in terms of ideas, themes, their interests, personality and ways they could make their own book invitation unique. As well as referencing their courtship up to their wedding date, the invitation was a music-lovers delight - we recreated ticket stubs and programs from their dates! - and also included a tribute to Douglas Adams.

Loren and Greg |
The Brief: Greg and I met whilst travelling around Europe a couple of years ago and became fast friends: he is one of the kindest, genuine and most intelligent people I have known - a total gentleman. A few years later, I was very excited to meet the beautiful Loren on a trip to Canberra with the couple, and knew almost instantly that this was it for the both of them. Imagine my delight this year, not only to be informed of their engagement, but that they had chosen me as their invitation designer. Loren and Greg had developed a simple motif for their wedding - a key, which represented the key to their hearts, to their intertwined future, and to new beginnings. Greg had recently purchased a beautiful turquoise old Holden, and this became part of the colour scheme, as well as pops of yellow, which Loren planned on using throughout their big day - I also used a natural recycled paper texture to keep things laid-back. Loren's sister Rachel provided the stunning photography of the couple taken on their engagement photo shoot, which was the perfect finishing touch to the suite.

Annabel and Gareth - Save The Date |
The Brief: Can there be anything more inspiring to design around than the Amalfi coast? After this project, I really don't think so - even if the research part made me green with envy! I designed a Save The Date postcard for my clients Annabel and Gareth, who have a beautiful getaway planned for Ravello, Italy in 2012. I was very happy to be able to illustrate another vintage travel postcard-inspired project, which are quickly becoming my favourites to work on. Annabel plans for there to be many pops of colour amongst the beautiful scenery of the Amalfi coast, so we used yellows, navys and sun-kissed blues in their design.

Emma and Murray |
The Brief: Emma's first introduction and vision for the stationery for her Queensland marriage to Murray was exciting for all it's possibilities. A self-confessed "stationery freak", Emma couldn't imagine not sending out an paper invitation, but hoped to be able to create something that was light on the environment, as well as a keepsake. The invitation featured the colours of Emma's Alannah Hill accessories and her bridesmaid's dress in a beautiful Saba "Storm", and also referenced Murray and Emma's love of the outdoors in a natural wooden-look paper and silhouettes of trees, grass and fibres.

Hayley and Brett - Save The Date |
The Brief: Hayley and Brett's wedding getaway to Vanuatu in 2012 is also planned as a lovely holiday with their closest friends and family. As tickets and accommodation would need to be secured in advance, the couple commissioned a special postcard to send to their guests which shared all the important details and also built the excitement of the event! A special illustration of a Vanuatu sunset was commissioned to decorate the front of the postcard - with washes of texture to give the vector illustration an aged look.

Kelly and Benjamin |
The Brief: Kelly and Benjamin's invitation suite was influenced by a warm colour palette of pale green, dusky pink and creamy mauve to
create something soft, dreamy and romantic, with hints of autumn and
an air of vintage/antique glamor. When closed, the invitation was designed to resemble a cute vintage quilted clutch - complete
with ornate lace patterning and an elegant vertical belly band to hold
it in place. Muted swirls and contemporary patterns result in a sweet and modern package for Kelly and Ben's friends and family to enjoy.

Catherine and Matt |
The Brief: Catherine commissioned me to create a design that would feature at her wedding reception, a family tree! It was dual purpose: the finished print would hang in their new home as a celebration of bringing two families together, and would also be a lovely surprise for their guests. We worked with a very simplistic type design and lots and lots and lots of green leaves! Catherine collected the stories of how each couple in her family met, their birthdates and marriage dates!

Melinda and Ron - Thankyou |
The Brief: Because Melinda and Ron's wedding invitation suite was so enjoyable to put together, I felt that the thankyou card deserved equal thought and attention, so much so that I've made the project it's own page! Melinda and Ron planned to send out some photos along with their card to guests to keep, so we created a card that was reminiscent of an old photo wallet - the type you'd get when you were getting film developed! A thankyou checklist inside the cover added a little bit of humor and there was even a little pocket for "negatives" - fun!

Caitlan and Andrew |
The Brief: Caitlan and Andrew's invitation suite will forever be a favourite of mine because it's design focus was not only centred around music, but HEAVY METAL MUSIC, which is Andrew's favourite. Even though black, skulls and Metallica ninja stars do not usually run synonymous with weddings, I think this is what makes this suite all the more special. And let it be said that Caitlan is an amazing woman to forgo the typical for this project, which became a celebration of her future husband (on her specific request) and their relationship together, the best grounds for any design project.

Sarah and Nick |
The Brief: We often receive requests for invitation designs inspired by the Australian native bush - particularly for weddings based in Echuca, where the Murray River flows past gum trees and the worn wooden planks of the historic wharf. I was delighted to find out that Sarah and Nick had a vision with a strong native theme that references the surrounds of their ceremony, but were also looking for a contemporary and fun design. Touches of red and gold were also included to match the couple's choices in bridesmaid dresses and the flowers of the bouquets.
